As September approaches, the exhibition season kicks off and many of the scale/gauge societies will be holding their exhibitions. The first of these is The Gauge O Guild who hold their annual Guildex in Telford over the first weekend of the month (6th & 7th). Also this weekend there are exhibitions in Ilton, Somerset (Saturday only – organised by the 3mm Society); Andover (Andover MRC); Grantham (Grantham Railway Society); Millom (Millom Railway Modellers) and Sandown, Isle of Wight.
Mid-week, on the 11th, 12th & 13th, the Severn Valley Railway are hosting a beer festival at Bridgnorth.
Over the weekend of 13th and 14th, there is a diesel gala on the Great Central Railway; unfortunately details of which locos to expect have not yet been confirmed, so check with the GCR website nearer to the time. The EM Gauge Society is holding its ExpoEM North event in Slaithwaite. This will include 9 layouts, 14 traders and demos including etched brass coach construction, architectural modelling, loco building and conversions, track building, scenery and working with plasticard from several well know modellers. Glossop and District MRC also have an exhibition at Bradbury Community House, Market Street. On the Sunday, Colin Hill, the Circle’s Social Secretary has organised an excursion to the Pendon Museum and the Didcot Railway Centre, details of this trip will no doubt be available elsewhere in your Linesider or on the website. Also on the 14th, there is a European Car display at the Foxfield Railway.
On Wednesday 17th Andy York, founder of the RMweb forum, will be presenting a talk on how the internet can benefit railway modellers. This is also open to non-members and will take place at Staffs County Officers Club, Eastgate St, Stafford. More information is available on the SRC website.
The next weekend, (20th &21st) the Treneglos team are off to France to an exhibition in Chatellerault (or is it an elaborate excuse to take a van over the Channel for a booze cruise) – don’t forget your passports! A little closer to home there is an exhibition in Kings Heath (B14 6ER), organised by the Redditch Model Railway Club with 18 layouts and more than 20 traders. On the Severn Valley Railway there is the autumn Steam Gala (Friday – Sunday) featuring visiting locos City of Truro and “Dukedog” 9017. Also, the North Flyde MRC have an exhibition in Fleetwood, (FY7 6HF) and Shipley MRS have an exhibition in Shipley (BD17 5JH).
The final weekend of the month (27th &28th) is quite a busy one. There is an exhibition in Southport (PR8 3DT, Southport MRS) with more than 20 layouts and 10 traders. Leigh Model Railway Society have an exhibition at Westleigh High School, (Westleigh Lane, Leigh WN7 5NL), with 12 layouts and 10 traders. In Loughborough the Soar Valley MRC hold their annual exhibition, with over 20 layouts and a good selection of traders. The Halifax MRC have their annual exhibition at the North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax and the Scalefour Society’s Scaleforum takes place at Leatherhead, Surrey. There is also a real ale festival on the Great Central Railway, on the 26th – 28th and on the 28th there is a traction engine steam party at the Foxfield Railway.
The first weekend of October it is of course Manchester Model Railway Society’s annual exhibition (Friday 3rd – Sunday 5th). Advance tickets are available on-line or by post, saving 50p on the price of tickets bought on the day. |
