Astley by Nick Palette

Astley is a small town on the end of a branch line in the West Country, probably not far from Taunton.

It has a small station with passenger and goods facilities. There is a regular passenger service to and from Taunton. The main goods handled are coal and general merchandise. There is also a dairy half a mile along the branch towards Taunton which has a single siding. This means that all traffic for the dairy must run into the station for the loco to run round.

The period depicted is the early 1960s when steam traction was very much on the demise as far as the Western Region of BR was concerned.

Everything on the layout with the exception of the trees is readily available from your local model shop.
