Dorehill

Dorehill 4mm/OO

Dorehill is a fictitious layout based in the South Yorkshire / North Midlands area between 1957 and 1962, allowing us to run both steam and early diesels from the BR Midlands period with visiting stock from the Eastern and Western regions.

The layout is made up with 22 boards measuring 6’x3′ or 6’x2’6″.
It is of a free-standing design so that the public can view on all four sides with operation from the centre.

Built to OO gauge 4mm scale, it is powered by analogue DC and is controlled by 11 operators using 7 control panels and 11 controllers. To operate this layout at an exhibition we normally travel with a team of 16 operators.

Train movements are to a schedule for passenger and fast freight. The goods yard and slow freight work independently.
Stock is owned mainly by club members and is a mixture of ready-to-run and kit built. Fitting crew figures and lamps to locos along with real coal to tenders is all on going. All express passenger trains are close coupled with a lot of the stock also being weathered.

The operating signals are a mixture of semaphore and two-aspect coloured light. All the track work is Peco code 100.

All can be seen there has been a conscious effort to provide a large variety of scenery and a tremendous amount of quality scratch-building. Many club members past and present have built and upgraded this layout over a ten-year period.
