Fairwood Junction 4mm/OO
Fairwood Junction is situated to the West of Westbury in Wiltshire in the shadow of the famous white horse. The lines at the rear of the layout are the Westbury station avoiding lines which rejoin the main Westbury to Taunton line at the junction. The layout is naturally compressed into a 15’ x 10’ footprint but the bridges and track plan are faithful reproductions of the real things, the real location being a popular spot for enthusiasts.
The layout is set in the spring (note the blossom on the Blackthorne in the hedgerows & embankments) of the final year of HST’s running on the Western region main line (2019). The new order of IET’s beginning to take over long distance services and local services provided by 158 & 150 units. Freight is prototypical, with numerous working to & from the Mendip stone quarries and engineers working to & from Westbury’s extensive yards.
The back scene is made up of images of the location taken from standing on the bridge over the junction. Trees constructed from Sea foam and Woodland scenic tree armatures. Ground cover utilises woodland scenic & Greenscene products (static grasses etc).
Layout operation is DCC with the majority of locos sound fitted, weathered and prototypical to the area. Enjoy spending a few minutes train spotting at the line side & feel free to ask any questions of the operators.
