Meyrick Road – Exhibition Debut
The SRC club layout, Meyrick Road, made its exhibition debut at St Johns, Stoke on Trent, on the weekend of 29/30 July.
Here is a report and photos provided by Roger Bateman.
===============================================
Meyrick Road operated for the first time as a full operating layout at St John’s Show over July 29th & 30th July.
It was a nervous event for us as the electrical problems which have troubled us for many months were eventually solved only a week or so before this exhibition.
We ran member’s stock in both analogue and DCC, we chose to do the first stint on analogue. The fiddle yard was set up with two passenger and two freight trains for both directions (red & green) lines. This worked very well in keeping trains moving through the scenic front boards. At lunch time we did a quick loco swop over to DCC, again using members stock with three SRC locos.
We had several nice comments about the layout, especially when we turned the room lights off which highlighted the layout lights to their maximum effect.
Saturday’s operating team were, Cliff, Ron, Colin, Allan, Tom and myself.
On Sunday 30th we were joined by Russ, Hugh and Pete Wilson. Hannah, Tom’s friend also took the controls for two sessions. This morning we started off with DCC running and ran some of Allan’s stock, again we swapped over to analogue for the afternoon. Doing two full days on a layout allows you to see little items that can be adjusted, repaired or added to smooth the operation. The show wasn’t as busy as yesterday, but we still had lots of interest and questions. I’m pleased to say the layout performed really well and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all members that have worked on it over the last two or three years. I’m confident it will be a credit to SRC in future exhibitions it performs in.
