Cherry Willingham 3mm TT100
Cherry Willingham is a real location just a few miles outside of Lincoln, although the village does indeed have a Station, it is a simple through two platform affair on the main Lincoln to Barnetby line, so nothing like the model named after it.
We took historical inspiration from the fact that there used to be an avoiding line, that bypassed Lincoln itself, but which was lifted many years ago.
Using modellers licence, we reasoned that this avoiding line had been lifted only so far as Cherry Willingham, after which the village then retained its station to the South of the Village and also retained a small goods yard servicing a Fertiliser Depot, a Steel Fabrication plant, an Oil depot and was also used for Speedlink Freight services, tripped from places such as Tinsley, Barnetby and Immingham Docks. The time period modelled is Post Sectorisation (1987) and Pre-Privatisation (1994).
Track used is 3mm Society bases with Peco flat bottomed rail slid through the chairs and laid in scale 60ft lengths.
The majority of the pointwork is scratch built to suit each location, with the exemption of the Double Slip, which is a Peco HOm rtr turnout – used to show that you can indeed buy rtr track for 3mm Scale layouts!
All locos are 3d resin prints from the excellent ‘Lincoln Locos’ stable, sprayed and weathered by Andy Clayton from JAVmar. As the layout is DCC operated, each loco has a Sound Decoder and speakers – the sound decoders being mainly Next18 Zimo, with the odd exception, again fitted by Andy.
All stock is 3d resin printed, either from JAVmar/3D RailWorks, Marsden Designs or kit and scratch built by the Macclesfield 3mm team.
The various and excellent Lighting/ Sound effects plus the information screens are from layout member, Keith Taylor.
TT100 (3MM ) ( not TT120! ) is thriving and currently experiencing a golden renaissance thanks to the 3D Printing technology available to the average modeller, so if you have any questions whatsoever, please don’t hesitate to ask.
