Swaynton

Swaynton 4mm EM

Swaynton is a double track end-to-end layout with a small station and goods yard representing the Southern Mainline in the New Forest between Southampton and Bournemouth in the early summer of 1960. The track plan in based on Hinton Admiral but elements of Sway are included as well; hence the fictitious name. Like all self-respecting Southern stations, it is inevitably signed for somewhere else – in this case the equally fictitious Milcliffe-on-Sea.

Trains are correct to period and range from stopping locals and pick-up goods to through expresses including the Bournemouth Belle (albeit somewhat shortened). All trains are hauled by locomotives known to have run on the line, including Drummond, Maunsell, Bulleid and BR Standard classes.

Stock includes kit-built models as well as converted proprietary items. Operation is to a sequence based on actual timetables of the period, though with a significantly more frequent service, and in a prototypical manner as far as possible.

The layout features handbuilt pointwork using C&L components, authentic pattern SR lineside fencing and working signals (including ground signals) based on LSWR and SR prototypes. All buildings are scratch built. Control is conventional DC using Pentrollers.
