April 2024
Time to take a look back at the notable events from April 2024.
There was attendance at several shows by SRC layouts.
Friday 5th and Saturday 6th, the club project layout Redwick Halt was at Sutton Coldfield in the hands of Mike Potter, Mike Kenyon and John Eccleston. After the mayor opened the show, the layout performed well and received plenty of positive comments and interest.
On the weekend of the 14th and 15th, we had two layouts at Statfold – Derwent Rd and San Clemente. A very busy show as there was also the attraction of the live steam narrow gauge railway which was running during the weekend. Also, there were the static exhibits in the roundhouse and the museum.

All in all, an enjoyable weekend.
But that’s not all! Saturday 27th, Redwick Halt was out on the road again, this time at Blackheath in the Black Country. Again very busy but we were able to cope with the crowds as this photo of Tom and Pete with the layout shows.
(Cheer up Tom!)
Our photographer, Spike, has kindly provided some more prototype photos of interest:

And finally, a touch of humour for you (with a moral):
I saw a homeless man & I asked him if I gave him £100 would you buy booze?
He said no he hadn’t had a beer in years. Then I said if I give you £100 will you buy a model train?
He again said no, he got rid of his layout 15 years ago.
So then I said I’ll do you better than £100. I’ll take you home get you all cleaned up. My wife will cook a fantastic meal for you. Then I’ll bring you back & still give you £100.
He asked me won’t she get mad? I said it didn’t matter.
I just wanted her to see what happens to a man when he stops drinking and gives up his layout.
