March 2024 has come and gone. As we enter April (and the second quarter of the year) let’s have alook back at what happened in March.
On Saturday 2nd, the club’s project layout, Redwick Halt, made its exhibtion debut at Wombourne. The layout was built by a team of new members who had a range of experience from total novice to some experience and wanted to learn new skills or refresh existing skills. The layout was largely built over 6 sessions on Saturday mornings from 10am to 1pm, after which time, it was complete enough to run trains.

Over the same weekend, the club’s flagship layout Whiteacres was appearing at Abingdon. Here it is all set up and ready to go.
On the wekeend of 9th/10th, member’s layout San Clemente was at the Nottingham Spring Show.

Moving away from the model theme to the prototype. Member Spike Windows has been out and about recording notable events on the rails.
Ian Riley’s Black 5 No.44871 climbs towards searchlight lane junction with the Railway Touring Company, The Cheshireman charter, 1Z72 07.16 London Euston to Chester on the 2nd March 2024
Vintage Trains class 47 No.47773 and GWR Castle class No.5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe pause at Stafford for a set down while working 1Z44, 15.05 Carlisle to Birmingham New Street, The Shap Mountaineer charter. The class 47 had been added at Crewe for the last leg to Birmingham as planned.
Rail Adventure Class 43 HST power cars No.43480 and 43468 pass through Stafford hauling Merseyrail Class 777 No.777053 working 5Q79, 08.29 Old Walton Junction Sidings to Long Marston. Power cars No.43465 and 43484 were at the rear. 21/3/2024.
Greater Anglia Class 720 Aventra EMUs No.720138 and 720102 reverse at Stafford while working 5Q27, 08.45 Wembley Inter City Depot to Rugby mileage accumulation/test run. 18/3/2024.
