Clun Castle

Clun Castle 4mm/OO

The village of Clun, is situated in Shropshire not far from the Welsh boarder, and here we find the terminus of the little known Clun Valley light railway, Clun Castle. This was a Colonel Stephens run railway, and operated using second hand locomotives and stock.

The line ran from a junction with the mainline at Broome on the LNWR Central Wales line and had a few intermediate stations, the main one been at Clunton, there was also small halt near the village centre in Clun.

At Clunton there was a collection of sidings serving the forestry activities in the locality, and there was a small timber branch and yard situated nearby.

The scene is set just before the outbreak of WW2; how the line survived this long is a bit of a mystery, but it is thought it did so due to livestock and timber movements, as you can see the line was in a very run down state and closure is imminent.

Model wise, the scenic section is built into a Grainge and Hodder, 1200MM by 400MM canopy module. The track, if you can spot it under the grass is Peco, locos are modified RTR, models and the stock is a mixture of modified RTR and kit built.
