RS Tower

RS Tower HO/3.5mm

RS Tower depicts a flat crossing between two lines in a small midwestern town. The interlocking at the diamond is a frequent cause of delay and congestion to both routes meaning the trains often have to wait there for a path through the town, slowing down the operations and hopefully letting folk have a better look at the trains. Both routed also have access to a small yard which is used to service the many local industries in the area and interchange cars between the railroads, and a short stretch of street running provides a little further complication to operations.

Whilst RS Tower is not based on a specific real location it gets its inspiration from the Midwest area. The Midwest area can cater for a lot of railroads so as a lot of interesting liveries can be seen running on the layout.

From the start it was decided to wire the layout DCC only and to use the Peco code 83 trackage system.

The layout was designed so as to be able to run in different era’s but this has been difficult due to some structures etc not being compatible to some eras.

The layout has a wrap-around staging yard with curved ends which increases the length of storage tracks. The longest staging tracks will handle trains which are longer than the scenic section, something which really does give the impression of long trains.

The layout is also built with expansion in mind, each end has a “Freemo Style” single track connection where modules can be added.
