Apedale Valley Light Railway 2021
Confirmation that the Apedale Valley Light Railway will re-open for the 2021 season this Saturday 17th April.
Enthusiast-focussed events are currently planned to be the following – all subject, of course, to any changes in the COVID guidance.
May 8 – running day for War Department Hunslet 4-6-0 no.303 (Hunslet 1215)
May 29, 30,31 – “Welcome Back Stanhope” event – after a couple of years under overhaul, we welcome the return to operation of Kerr, Stuart 2395 of 1917 “Stanhope” – see attached photo.
July 10 and 11 is “Classic Diesels and Steam” weekend, when we will operate some of the huge fleet of internal combustion locos in addition to the steam service.
August 7 and 8 is “Military Trains” weekend. Apedale is home to the UK’s best collection of World War One military railway equipment, which will be in use during this weekend.
August 29,30 and 31 is a weekend themed around classic road vehicles of all sorts, with (of course) steam trains running on the railway.
Finally, October 2 & 3 will be our end-of-season Railway Gala; all being well, this will see the launch of at least one “new to steam” loco, but details will be confirmed nearer the time.
