Barnetby
From yours truly..
Back in the days when I did full time work, I travelled extensively to visit clients. I tried to remember my camera and when time permitted between appointments, I would try and find a good train watching spot.
Back in 2006, 14th August to be precise, I was in the North Lincolnshire area and paid a visit to Barnetby. For those that don’t know it, it is located on the line from Cleethorpes, Grimsby and Immingham. Just west of the station is a 3 way junction with lines going off to Lincoln, Sheffield and Doncaster. Passenger services then were provided by Trans Pennine and Central Trains and, at the time of the visit, there was a lot of freight activity with coal, oil and iron ore.
Back then, there was still mechanical signalling which meant that one was aware of approaching trains. As far as I know, this is now a thing of the past. However, there was a proposal to turn the redundant signal box into a viewing platform. The afternoon was interupted by a thunderous downpour which lasted for about 10 minutes. Unfortunately, there was very little shelter on the station.
The photos were taken for enjoyment and no train details were recorded, mainly beacuse the details weren’t known!
